What Gloss reads

Gloss reads your selection and the text around it only when you press your shortcut. It does not read your screen in the background.

What leaves your Mac

That text is sent through our lesson service to OpenAI, which generates the lesson. In a voice lesson, your voice is sent to OpenAI for the length of the lesson, up to 90 seconds.

Do not mark text you are not allowed to share with a third party.

What stays on your Mac

Your word log, with meanings, sentences and source apps, is stored on your Mac. You can remove words or export them.

What we keep

Our lesson service records the word and the cost of each lesson, for usage and billing. It applies a rate limit to protect the service.

When paid accounts open, we will keep your email and subscription status. Card details are handled by our payment provider and never reach us.
